Oblate Provincial confirms Fr. Moore is OK in Haiti

Fr. Thomas Moore
The Catholic Diocese of Saginaw received word this afternoon from the Toledo-based office of the Very Rev. David Whalen, Provincial of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, that Fr. Thomas Moore, a priest of that same religious order who ministered in Saginaw for 20 years before following a call to work with the poor and seminarians in Haiti nearly two years ago, is alive without serious injury following Tuesday’s 7.0-magnitude earthquake that rocked the island nation and leveled its capital city of Port-au-Prince.

Father Whalen sent an e-mail message shortly after 3:00 p.m. to members of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales this afternoon confirming their brother priests in Haiti, including Father Moore, had been seen and were alright. The message was sent by Whalen following a conversation he had with leaders of the Hands Together organization, who were on the ground in Haiti.
If you would like to support the immediate needs of the people and provide assistance as the nation recovers from this tragedy, checks may be made payable to Seton Institute and sent to: Seton Institute, P.O. Box 140182, St. Louis, Mo., 63114, Attn: Haiti Earthquake Relief.
In addition to sending a check, an online donation may also be made:
(For Fund select ‘Other’ and then enter ‘Haiti Earthquake Relief’ in the comments section.)
Seton Institute, the international outreach arm of Ascension Health, is coordinating system-wide relief efforts to assist. Seton Institute will send 100% of every donation directly to the Sisters in Haiti. Seton Institute also is working with the Catholic Consortium for International Health Care, which is made up of members from Catholic health systems across the United States, to generate a response to the needs in Haiti as well.
This is an event that requires our involvement. Speaking of the earthquake’s aftermath, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI said, "I appeal to the generosity of everyone so that our brothers and sisters receive our concrete solidarity and the effective support of the international community in this moment of need and suffering.” Let us offer the people of Haiti our prayers, our hearts and our help.
Thank you in advance for your support of these relief efforts and your continued commitment to our Mission to serve all with special attention to those persons who are poor and vulnerable. Remember, no contribution is too small, every little bit adds up.
Another suggestion for support, from the Catholic Health Association of the United States, is the Catholic Relief Services Support for Haiti at:
