New Walking Program - Footsteps for Fitness

Take a step in the right direction by joining the St. Mary's of Michigan Footsteps for Fitness program. There are many forms of exercise, but the simplest, least expensive and most accessible is walking.
 
The new, free fitness program offers the flexibility to log progress by date, time, laps, steps or miles. Because no two people are at the same fitness level, the Footsteps for Fitness program will count fitness days and award prizes based on cumulative yearly total of fitness days. In addition to the health and wellness benefits of the walking program, the Footsteps for Fitness program offers monthly programs, screenings and activities at no cost.
 
Those interested, can join the Footsteps for Fitness program by attending one of the two kick-off parties:
Thursday, January 19 at Fashion Square Mall from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Tuesday, January 24 at Center Courts from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
 
Jason Weigle, an exercise physiologist with St. Mary's, will discuss the benefits of walking at 9 a.m. with program registration to follow. The first 150 people to register in person at either location will receive a free Footsteps for Fitness t-shirt.
 
St. Mary's of Michigan encourages those who join the program to walk at their partner locations, Fashion Square Mall and Saginaw Township Center Courts.
 
Fashion Square Mall is located at 4787 Fashion Square Mall and Center Courts is located at 3320 N. Center Road, both in Saginaw Township.
 
Walking Facts:
To burn off one M&M, you must walk the length of a football field
Walking 3 miles per day at 3.5 mph can increase your lifespan by 7 years, and can improve your quality of life.
3.5 mph is the optimum speed for walking for fitness
One pound of body fat is equal to 3,500 calories
