FligthCare Milestone 10,000 Patients Transferred
A milestone was reached by FlightCare on December 9 with the completion of their 10,000th patient transport. With an average of 400 transports a year, this is a significant accomplishment showing the dedication and commitment of FlightCare and St. Mary’s of Michigan in servicing our community and referral hospitals.
On March 12, 2012, FlightCare commemorated 25 years of service. Since the first flight on March 12, 1987, the FlightCare crew transports patients ranging in age from 2-days old to 99-years old.
FlightCare’s helicopter, an American Eurocopter BK117 twin engine helicopter, is owned and operated by Air Methods, one of the largest air medical providers in the nation. The BK117 is capable of speeds up to 145 mph.
FlightCare provides inter-hospital transfers as well as emergency scene calls within a 150 mile radius of Saginaw. The crew has flown up to the Upper Peninsula, landed on Mackinaw Island, and as far south as the Cleveland Clinic.
The 24 hours a day, 7 days a week crew consists of a paramedic, a registered nurse and a pilot. A full-time, onsite mechanic maintains the helicopter. We salute our entire FlightCare crew for providing the fastest emergency medical transport along with the highest level of care for 25 years!
