Beat the Heat

St. Mary’s of Michigan Center of HOPE is offering a Community Cooling Center. The Center of HOPE is located at 723 Emerson (just behind the main hospital).
During this heat wave, the Center of HOPE is open to ALL to come in and beat the heat with air condition and cold water. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am—5:00 pm.
Top 5 ways to avoid heat illness and stay safe in the heat:

1) Drink plenty of water! Sip water every 15 minutes, even if you aren't thirsty. Avoid caffeine and alcohol as they cause dehydration.
2) Stay cool. Use an air conditioner or go to a cool place such as a basement, neighbor’s house, shopping mall or cooling center. Take a cool shower or bath. Stay out of the sun and in the shade.
3) Avoid exercising and physical activity during the midday. Mornings and evenings are typically cooler.

4) Wear thin and light colored clothing.
5) Keep an eye on children, elderly and pets. Never, ever, leave them in a parked vehicle.

Know the signs of heat illness and seek medical attention if necessary.
