St. Mary’s of Michigan Performs First Single Site Hysterectomy
St. Mary’s of Michigan is the first hospital north of Detroit to perform a single site hysterectomy with the daVinci Surgical System. Led by Deborah Russell, MD, an OBGYN associated with St. Mary’s of Michigan, this minimally invasive, three-dimensional surgical technique offers patients less scarring or no scarring at all.
The single site hysterectomy provides a safer and more precise procedure with the added benefit of only making one small incision through the navel. This reduces risk factors and recovery time, allowing most patients to go home the same day, and resuming regular activities within one to two weeks.
"This is truly a breakthrough surgical technique for women who must undergo a hysterectomy procedure,” said Dr. Russell.
