Digital Mammography Comes to St. Mary’s of Michigan
Hologic Selenia Digital Mammography
The most sophisticated and advanced digital mammography system available is on its way to St. Mary’s of Michigan. A donation of $475,000 from the St. Mary’s of Michigan Foundation has made possible the acquisition of the Hologic Selenia system.
Digital mammography is quicker and provides superior images over current analog devices and it will replace 2 existing units at our Towne Centre location. “It allows Radiologists to manipulate the images after they’re taken,” says Mammography Supervisor Dr. Julie Taylor. “This means we will have better visualization of abnormalities in the breast tissue."
The purchase of this digital mammography equipment will help St. Mary’s of Michigan achieve strategic goals of increased volumes, highest physician satisfaction in the state, and highest patient satisfaction in the state. “This will allow us to remain competitive in the area of women’s health,” says Gary Stefanko, Director of Imaging Services. In addition, surgical procedures are performed at the Towne Centre location utilizing mammography localization and digital technology will help expedite these procedures by providing immediate access to images throughout our facilities.
If all goes as planned, digital mammography should be up and running sometime this fall.
