Cherie Sammis Named V.P. of Mission Services at St. Mary’s of Michigan

Cherie Sammis, V.P. of Mission Services
has assumed the role of Vice President of Mission Services at St. Mary’s of Michigan in Saginaw. Sammis has been with Ascension Health for 18 years and previously served as Clinical Administrator and Director of various Joint Commission accredited ambulatory care sites with Providence Hospital in Washington, DC.
She received her BS in Nursing from the University of Texas and Master of Science from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. In addition to practice management and administration, she has 25 years experience as a bilingual Family Nurse Practitioner in public and private entities. Her clinical expertise is in family/community-oriented primary care for poor and vulnerable populations, migrant health, and maternal child health, including prenatal care for high-risk patients.
Her focused interest is participation in advocacy for access to care for uninsured, underserved and minority populations for both urban and international public health arenas. She has traveled to share community health experiences in international health arenas of China, Thailand, Central America, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Mexico.
For the last 4 years, Sammis has served as both a clinical expert and advisor for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in Human Trafficking (sexual and labor exploitation of children/adults. She received special recognition as a Nurse Leader in Catholic Health of the U.S. for her work in Human Trafficking in 2006.
