Hand & Upper Extremity

Patients with conditions that affect functional use of the hand and arm can benefit from special therapy services at St. Mary's of Michigan:

  • Cumulative trauma diseases

We follow the established protocols of the Indianapolis Hand Center, as well as physician-specific guidelines.

  • Custom-fabricated splints

  • Education in pain management techniques
  • Work or home simulation activities 
  • Comprehensive worksite evaluations and return-to-work therapy

Injury prevention and techniques to manage disease-specific symptoms are a vital part of each therapy program. These may include techniques to: 
  • Manage swelling, pain, and stiffness after injury
  • Protect joints affected by arthritis
  • Conserve energy throughout the day
  • Prevent injuries due to repetitive use on the job
  • Incorporate adaptive equipment to assist with daily activity completion
