News Release Date : 12/13/2012SMMSH receives Spirit of Quality Award
The Michigan Center for Rural Health has selected St. Mary's of Michigan Standish Hospital as a recipient of the Spirit of Quality Award. This award recognizes hospitals that have made significant and sustained improvement in patient safety and quality initiatives.
In June 2011, the hospital initiated a project to improve patient immunization rates. The goal was to immunize 100 percent of patients admitted to the hospital, including the Skilled Nursing Facility, with the pneumococcal and influenza vaccines. Through patient education and communication amongst the healthcare team, patient vaccination rates increased to 94 percent for the influenza vaccine and 97 percent for the pneumococcal vaccine. This is compared to 50 percent in 2010. As of May 2012, the rates have maintained with minimal fluctuation.
"Together our staff is demonstrating that we are providing the very best in medical care," said Rose Goick, Director of Patient Care Services. "The award truly is a wonderful representation of how every associate came together with a common goal - improving the health of our community."
