Fall Risk & Balance Assessment Opportunity
For seniors 65 and older, accidental falls is the leading cause of injury at home. These falls can be caused by stumbling on stairs, slipping in a bathtub, falling off a ladder or step stool, or something as simple as tripping over a garden hose, dog leash, or household appliance cord. Unfortunately, falls often lead to fractured or broken bones, severe bruising, and a plethora of other injuries. No matter the situation, the costs associated with falling can be staggering - physically, emotionally, and financially.
St. Mary's of Michigan Standish Hospital is educating the community and helping to reduce falls by offering free Fall Risk & Balance Assessments every Friday during the month of January. The assessment will be completed by physical and occupational therapists to help you determine your level of risk for falls. It includes simple balance tests, as well as the completion of an activity questionnaire. The therapists will recommend a plan with a variety of options to assist you in improving your balance and function for increased safety both at home and in the community.
To schedule an appointment for a Fall Risk & Balance Assessment, contact the St. Mary's of Michigan Standish Hospital - Rehab Services Department at (989) 846-3515.
