Respiratory Therapy
The Respiratory Therapy Department at St. Mary's of Michigan Standish Hospital specializes in treating respiratory illnesses including chronic lung problems such as asthma, bronchitis, COPD, and emphysema.
The following outpatient testing is available through the Respiratory Therapy Department:
Pulmonary Function Test (PFT): A pulmonary function test measures how well the lungs take in and release air, as well as how effectively they move gases such as oxygen from the atmosphere into the body's circulation. This diagnostic tool aids in the diagnosis of asthma, emphysema, and other lung disorders.
Six Minute Walk Test: This test is used to determine the physical capability of a patient with chronic lung problems. It provides a check of a patients need for oxygen at rest and with activity. It assesses what liter flow it takes to maintain acceptable oxygenation during the activity.
