The Diabetes Self-Management Education Program at St. Mary's of Michigan Standish Hospital is a monthly three-part series. Program staff presents information which helps you better manage your diabetes, and reduce the risks of complications associated with diabetes.
The Diabetes Self-Management Education Program is certified through the Michigan Department of Community Health and is accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators.
Who Should Attend?
Any person with diabetes is encouraged to attend the program. Family members, caregivers, and other support persons will benefit from attending the program at no additional cost.
How to Sign-up
Anyone interested in attending the program should call the Diabetes Office to schedule an assessment prior to the first class. To set up an appointment, please call (989) 846-3430.
The program format includes a combination of class lecture and interaction through:
Classes are geared for persons of all ages and education backgrounds.
The cost of the program is covered by most health insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid (after deductibles and payments are met).
Afternoon classes are offered on a monthly basis throughout the year. Please call the Diabetes Office at (989) 846-3430 for a brochure.
Support Group Meetings
St. Mary's of Michigan Standish Hospital sponsors Diabetes Support Group meetings, free of charge. Please call (989) 846-3430 for upcoming dates, times, and topics. Support groups are open to the public.
An annual Christmas Luncheon is held for all who have attended diabetes education classes, including their support person, throughout the year.
